OPHK Reaffirms Support for NYSC Operations as Theatre Commander Hosts Borno Coordinator

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Borno State to ensure the scheme continues to operate effectively in the region.

According to a statement from the Media Information Officer of OPHK, the assurance was given on Thursday, 4 December 2025, during a courtesy visit by the Borno State NYSC Coordinator, Mallam Nasir Bello, and his management team to the Theatre Command Headquarters in Maiduguri.

Major General Abubakar highlighted the vital role of the NYSC in national development and commended the ongoing cooperation between the scheme and OPHK. He noted that the full resumption of NYSC orientation activities in Borno reflects the significant improvement in the security landscape across the state.

He expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged the Theatre Command’s continued support to the NYSC, stressing that the safety and welfare of corps members remain a top priority, especially as Borno prepares for forthcoming local government elections.

In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mallam Nasir Bello, praised the Theatre Commander for the warm reception and the sustained support the scheme has enjoyed from the military. He said his visit was to formally introduce himself following his assumption of office in April 2025 and to reaffirm the active operations of the NYSC in the state.

Bello recalled that the NYSC had previously suspended its activities in Borno due to insurgency but has since fully returned, thanks to the improved security situation. Describing the NYSC as a “baby of the Nigerian Army,” he appealed for continued collaboration and protection to ensure corps members carry out their duties safely.

The visit featured the signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of a souvenir to the NYSC Coordinator, and a group photograph to mark the occasion.
