Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded significant operational successes in Adamawa State as part of intensified cordon-and-search operations aimed at tracking perpetrators and facilitators of the Gamboru Market Mosque suicide bombing.
According to a statement issued by the Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, sustained surveillance on identified locations led to a coordinated cordon-and-search operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area in the early hours of 5 January 2026. During the operation, eight suspects were arrested, including two principal suspects believed to be key facilitators within the suicide bombing network.
Items recovered during a search of the suspects’ residence included cash, mobile phones, identification documents, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, jewellery and other personal effects. The recovered items are currently undergoing forensic analysis to aid ongoing investigations. During identification procedures, a suspect already in custody reportedly identified the two principal suspects as individuals who supplied materials used in the preparation of the Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Other occupants of the residence were also linked to the network.
All suspects are presently in military custody and are undergoing detailed interrogation to enable further intelligence gathering before being handed over for continued investigation.
In a related development, OPHK troops on 4 January 2026 intercepted a large consignment of suspected terrorists’ logistics at Mayo Nguli in Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The troops seized 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), estimated at about 1,125 litres, suspected to have been smuggled for terrorist use.
The suppliers were said to have fled on sighting the troops, abandoning the petroleum products, which have since been taken into military custody pending further action. No casualties were recorded during the operation.
The successes, OPHK said, underscore its unwavering resolve to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt logistics and supply chains, prevent future attacks and bring all perpetrators and collaborators to justice.
The headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with security agencies, noting that public support remains critical to sustaining security across the North East region.
