Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, Alhaji Ali Adamu, in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the rescue operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts under Operation Lafiya Nakowa to eliminate banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
The operation followed a distress call received by troops stationed in Lau, reporting that Alhaji Adamu had been abducted while sleeping outside his compound. Acting swiftly, the troops mobilized and launched a pursuit of the kidnappers. Realizing that the soldiers were closing in, the criminals abandoned the victim and escaped into the nearby bushes. The troops successfully rescued Alhaji Adamu, who was later reunited with his family without any ransom paid.
In a related development, local vigilantes and hunters on patrol around Maraban Kunini apprehended a suspected kidnapper, identified as 30-year-old Mr. Lalau Adamu, believed to be connected to the abduction. When troops arrived at the scene, they discovered that the suspect had sustained injuries from mob action. He was immediately evacuated under military protection to a medical facility for treatment, while further investigations are ongoing.
The Commander, 6 Brigade/ Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their prompt response and the effective collaboration with vigilantes and local hunters that led to the successful operation. He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance efforts at maintaining peace and stability across Taraba State.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining its operations to rid Taraba and surrounding areas of criminal elements.
