NYSC STRENGTHENS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS FOR ENHANCED ORIENTATION COURSE NATIONWIDE

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening strategic collaboration with key partners and stakeholders in a bid to strengthen the conduct of its Orientation Courses and overall operations.

This was the central message delivered by the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Akinteye Nafiu, during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Orientation Workshop held in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Caroline Embu, the NYSC boss emphasized that the workshop provides a vital platform for the Corps’ leadership and stakeholders to critically assess the successes and challenges of previous orientation exercises, with the aim of elevating the quality of future ones.

According to Brigadier General Nafiu, the periodic Pre-Orientation Workshop reflects the NYSC’s unwavering drive to continuously refine and modernize its Orientation Course structure. He noted that the ultimate goal is to better prepare Corps Members for the critical task of nation-building.

“The Orientation Course must remain a vehicle for instilling discipline, patriotism, and national unity. These values are not negotiable, especially in a time when the fabric of our society is being tested by distractions and divergent interests,” the DG said.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, pledged continued support for the Scheme, describing the NYSC as a cornerstone of national cohesion and development since its establishment in 1973.

Governor Sule, who was represented by the Acting Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, lauded the NYSC’s significant contributions to sectors such as healthcare delivery, community development, education, public awareness campaigns, and national exercises like elections and population censuses.

“The NYSC remains one of Nigeria’s most impactful institutions. Its contributions across every nook and cranny of this country are both visible and laudable,” Governor Sule stated.

He also assured the Scheme of Nasarawa State’s sustained infrastructural investment to foster a conducive environment for youth engagement and productivity. The governor urged the NYSC to keep evolving with innovative approaches that would further cement its relevance and earn it deeper public admiration.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Ahmed Wada Ikaka, emphasized the strategic importance of the Orientation Camp experience, noting that it shapes Corps Members’ perceptions and expectations from the onset.“The first impressions formed during Orientation are lasting. This is why every effort must be made to make the camp experience impactful, transformative, and memorable,” he said.

The 2025 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Orientation Workshop is expected to produce resolutions that will shape the NYSC’s operations, particularly in ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the Orientation Course in the face of evolving societal dynamics.
