The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as baseless the social media reports alleging that Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye (State Code: LA/24B/8325) was denied her Certificate of National Service (CNS) for making critical remarks about the government.
In a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Scheme clarified that Rita’s case has no connection to politics or free speech. Instead, her service year was extended by two months after she failed to participate in the April 2025 biometrics clearance — a clear violation of the NYSC Bye-Laws.
She is one of 131 Corps Members whose CNS issuance was withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. According to the NYSC, the extension is a standard, routine sanction applied equally to all offenders without bias or exception.
“This is a long-established procedure within the NYSC, rooted in fairness and discipline, and should not be misrepresented or politicized,” the statement read.
The NYSC Management appealed to the public to disregard the misleading narratives and to understand that compliance with the Scheme’s regulations remains essential for all Corps Members.
The organisation reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to carrying out its mandate in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
