NSCC DG RESUMES DUTY, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SENIOR CITIZENS’ WELFARE

The Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Hon. Medinat Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, has officially assumed office and pledged to advance the Centre’s mandate of promoting the dignity, care, and inclusion of Nigeria’s elderly population.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and the Minister of State, Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, the DG stated her readiness to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor.

“I have come to inform you that I have resumed duties at the helm of affairs at the National Senior Citizens Centre to carry on with the mandate of strengthening the protection of Senior Citizens’ rights to dignity, independence, care, security, participation, and self-fulfillment,” she said.

A statement issued by the Head of Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications at NSCC, Mr. Omini Oden, noted that with the support of the Ministry, the Centre is poised to key into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes social inclusion and recognizes the role of senior citizens in national development.

Congratulating the new DG on her appointment, Minister Yilwatda urged her to consolidate on the achievements of the Centre while initiating innovative programmes that would uplift the lives of older persons across the country. He also encouraged strong intra- and inter-ministerial collaboration to ensure impactful service delivery.

“In justifying the social contract embedded in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the APC-led administration, Senior Citizens in Nigeria must be availed a dignified, healthy, happy, and secure life to the fullest,” the Minister emphasized.

Hon. Akinyemi-Obe was accompanied on the visit by the North-Central Coordinator of the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), Alhaji Raji Ibrahim, and the Member of the House of Representatives representing Surulere II Federal Constituency, Hon. Lanre Okunlola
