In a groundbreaking step to promote dignity, inclusion, and improved quality of life for Nigeria’s elderly population, the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) and the Pensions Transitional Arrangements Directorate (PTAD) have entered into a strategic alliance aimed at transforming service delivery for senior citizens and pensioners nationwide.

The partnership was formally announced during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, to the Director General of the NSCC, Hon. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, at the NSCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, 4th August 2025. The development was confirmed in a statement by the Head of Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications, Omini Oden.

At the core of this renewed collaboration is the creation of a Joint Working Group that will lead coordinated interventions between both agencies, ushering in a new era of purposeful engagement with Nigeria’s ageing population. The partnership will focus on seamless data sharing, strengthened advocacy, and integrated outreach initiatives that place the needs of senior citizens at the center of national attention.

Plans are underway to introduce innovative programs that support healthy and productive ageing, expand access to medical outreach and assistive devices, deepen nutrition campaigns, and promote active community participation through continued engagement. This initiative will also see a comprehensive profiling of senior citizens across the country to enhance planning and inclusivity in policymaking.

Hon. Akinyemi-Obe, while receiving the PTAD delegation, commended the agency for its unwavering commitment to the welfare of older persons. She described the visit as a symbol of shared purpose and national responsibility, noting that the NSCC’s vision is fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

According to her, the Centre remains committed to protecting, empowering, and amplifying the voices of Nigeria’s senior citizens in nation-building.

In her remarks, PTAD Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, emphasized the agency’s mission to ensure that every pensioner receives what is due accurately, promptly, and with dignity. She expressed satisfaction with the federal government’s pension reforms aimed at strengthening the Defined Benefit Scheme to deliver justice and equity to all qualified retirees.

Odunaiya also praised NSCC’s leadership in designing impactful programs like the Continuing Engagement Bureau a flagship platform that reconnects senior citizens with the national workforce and volunteerism.

She highlighted PTAD’s reform-driven initiatives, including biometric verification, digital transformation, the “I Am Alive” confirmation process, and its robust stakeholder engagement forums, all of which mirror NSCC’s forward-looking philosophy.

Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to working hand-in-hand to ensure that ageing in Nigeria is no longer a challenge but a phase of life marked by recognition, relevance, and renewed purpose.
