The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued an important public advisory to guide citizens on the proper use of its Self-Service Modification Portal, especially for those intending to update their National Identification Number (NIN) records.
In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications Unit, Kayode Adegoke, the Commission emphasized the need for users to strictly follow the outlined procedures to avoid service disruptions and ensure the security of personal data.
The advisory highlights that each self-service account is uniquely tied to the browser and device used during initial registration. As such, users must access their account using the same browser and device to avoid login issues.
It further cautions that any attempt to access the portal from a different browser or device may result in denial of access due to security protocols designed to protect user identity.
The Commission also warned users against clearing their browser cache, as this action resets the browser’s memory and may trigger a security lock on the account. If locked, the account will require an unlinking process before access can be restored.
Additionally, users are allowed a maximum of five unlock attempt requests once their account is locked. Exceeding this limit will prevent any further requests from being processed.
NIMC reaffirmed that these guidelines are part of robust measures to protect users’ data and ensure the integrity of the self-service platform.
The Commission called on the public to cooperate fully by adhering to the instructions and reiterated its commitment to improving service delivery while safeguarding the digital identities of Nigerians.
