Nigerian Navy Holds Second Bi-Annual Transformation Workshop to Drive Innovation

The Naval Transformation and Innovation Branch of Naval Headquarters on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, held its second bi-annual training workshop, bringing together officers and ratings from various commands, units and establishments across the Nigerian Navy. The workshop forms part of activities lined up for the year to strengthen institutional capacity and operational effectiveness.

Themed “Role of the Transformation Office in Instituting a Culture of Change and Continuous Improvement in the Nigerian Navy,” the workshop highlighted the importance of innovation, adaptability and sustained reform in enhancing service delivery and mission accomplishment within the Navy.

Speaking as a resource person, Rear Admiral Monday Unurhiere (Rtd) commended the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for his forward-looking vision for the Service. He emphasized the need for continuous learning and relearning as critical drivers of meaningful transformation and institutional growth.

In his welcome address, the Chief of Naval Transformation and Innovation, Rear Admiral Chijoke Onyemaobi, who was represented by the Director of Civil-Military Cooperation, Commodore Innocent Udoudoh, expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for his strategic foresight in establishing and strengthening the Naval Transformation and Innovation Branch. He noted that the initiative is central to the realization of the Navy’s vision and mission.

Participants were urged to maximize the workshop as a platform for robust engagement and exchange of ideas geared towards improving operational effectiveness and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement within the Nigerian Navy.
