In a bold and well-coordinated operation, troops of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued Major M.D. Josiah, a senior officer who was abducted by gunmen in Bomadi, Delta State, on 8 September 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, the rescue was the outcome of meticulous planning, intelligence-led tracking, and close collaboration with community leaders and residents of Bomadi.
The synergy enabled the troops to locate the abductors and successfully free the officer at Tuomor Waterside, Bomadi Local Government Area, on 9 September 2025.
During the operation, Major Josiah sustained gunshot wounds but was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving adequate treatment.
Commander 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, commended the troops for their courage and tactical expertise.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to safeguard lives, property, and security in Delta State and across the South South region.
Brigadier General Shonibare also expressed deep appreciation to the communities in Bomadi Local Government Area for their cooperation, stressing that their support reflects the growing trust between the Army and the people in the joint fight against criminality.
The successful rescue, he added, underscores the Nigerian Army’s readiness and capacity to respond swiftly and decisively to security threats, ensuring peace and stability in the region.
