The Nigerian Army regrets to announce the passing of Lieutenant S. Haruna following an unfortunate domestic incident involving him and his wife, which occurred on 22 September 2025 and resulted in severe fire burns sustained by the officer.
In a statement issued by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, it was disclosed that the officer was immediately evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), where he received comprehensive medical attention. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Lt Haruna sadly succumbed to his injuries on 6 October 2025 while receiving treatment.
The Nigerian Army deeply commiserates with the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased officer, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
An investigation was promptly instituted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. The outcome of the investigation will be made public upon its conclusion.
