The Commander, Corps of Engineers (CCE), Major General Shamsideen Shafaru, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, paid an operational visit to the Headquarters of 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), to assess the combat readiness, operational efficiency and welfare of Engineer troops and platforms deployed in the theatre.
The visit, according to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Haruna Mohammed Sani, was part of efforts to ensure optimal performance of Engineer units providing critical combat support to ongoing operations in the North-East.
Major General Shafaru expressed satisfaction with the performance of 7 Division, commending the professionalism and commitment of the troops. He noted that the Corps of Engineers remains resolute in playing its combat support role effectively through a comprehensive assessment of troop readiness and available platforms, which he described as vital to the overall success of OPHK.
The CCE said the visit was also aimed at reinforcing the Nigerian Army’s drive for transformation, resilience and adaptability in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyede. He disclosed that additional engineering platforms had been acquired, some of which would soon be deployed to support operations under OPHK, while assuring of sustained collaboration between the Corps of Engineers and 7 Division.
Responding, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division Nigerian Army, OPHK, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, attributed the major operational successes recorded by the Division to the critical contributions of Engineer units, particularly in countering the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) across the operational areas.
He commended the 47 Engineer Brigade for their diligence and sacrifice, stressing that many of the Division’s operations would not have been possible without their support.
The GOC appreciated the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers for its continued assistance and called for more combat enablers to further enhance mission effectiveness, adding that troops of 7 Division remained highly motivated and committed to their duties.
