The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening professional military education through strategic collaboration with international defence institutions.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, that the Army Chief made the pledge when a delegation from the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU) Nigeria Programme paid him a courtesy visit at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that professional military education remains a critical pillar in building a modern and adaptive fighting force capable of responding effectively to the country’s evolving security challenges.

He disclosed that the Nigerian Army would continue to participate in relevant DSCU training courses, particularly those focused on defence management, logistics systems, and institutional capacity development across the Service.

The Army Chief further stressed that exposing personnel to specialised training programmes and international academic platforms would enhance strategic thinking, strengthen defence management practices, and deepen institutional knowledge within the Army.

According to him, such initiatives are essential in preparing personnel to effectively handle the complex operational and administrative responsibilities associated with contemporary military operations.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Major General Miguel Casteyanoss (Rtd), explained that DSCU’s engagement with the Nigerian Army is primarily focused on institutional capacity building to help partner nations sustain and replicate military capabilities over time.

He stated that the university provides specialised courses and advisory support aimed at strengthening defence governance, logistics management, and policy development.

Major General Casteyanoss added that the collaboration also includes initiatives to support institutional systems such as material readiness, reporting structures, and life-cycle management frameworks.

He expressed confidence that the continued participation of Nigerian Army personnel in DSCU programmes would further enhance professional standards, institutional resilience, and long-term capability development within the Nigerian Army.
