In a decisive push against the proliferation of illicit arms, the North Central Zonal Office of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), has sought enhanced collaboration with the Nigerian Army to strengthen national security and promote regional stability.
The Zonal Director of NCCSALW, Abdul Adamu Eneche, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Kevin Aligbe, at the TRADOC Headquarters, Military Cantonment, Minna, Niger State.
According to Eneche, the visit aimed to deepen interagency cooperation in combating the menace of arms proliferation, particularly in the North Central zone, which has experienced rising security threats in recent times.
He reiterated the Centre’s readiness to stem the tide of illegal weapons through robust partnerships, stringent control mechanisms, and coordinated intelligence operations.Eneche emphasised the urgent need for military support, especially in neutralising unregulated vigilante groups falsely operating under the guise of controlling arms.
He also expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for providing storage facilities for recovered weapons and appealed for additional personnel to boost the Centre’s operational effectiveness.
In a statement released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, TRADOC NA, Lieutenant Colonel Felicia Daniel, the NCCSALW reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to detect and dismantle networks facilitating arms trafficking across the country.
Responding, Major General Kevin Aligbe commended the Centre’s dedication to the fight against arms proliferation and reaffirmed the Army’s unwavering support to the Centre’s mission.
He pledged continued collaboration and resource support to ensure the shared goal of a safer and more secure Nigeria is achieved.
He also congratulated the Zonal Director on his recent appointment and assured him of TRADOC’s partnership moving forward.
The Nigerian Army’s continues to focus on deepening institutional partnerships and strengthening internal structures to confront the nation’s security challenges head-on.
