NCCSALW NORTH CENTRAL SEEKS STRONGER ARMY COLLABORATION TO CURB ILLICIT ARMS PROLIFERATION

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), North Central Zone, Minna, Niger State, has paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Kevin Aligbe, as part of intensified efforts to strengthen synergy with the military in the ongoing battle against the proliferation of illicit arms in Nigeria.

The visit, which took place at the TRADOC Nigerian Army Headquarters in Minna Military Cantonment, was led by the Zonal Director of the Centre, Mr Abdul Adamu Eneche, alongside members of his management team.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Felicia Daniel, the visit was aimed at deepening inter-agency collaboration to curb the influx and circulation of unauthorized weapons, particularly in the North Central region and across the nation.

Mr Eneche, during the interactive session highlighted the strategic role of the Nigerian Army in ensuring national security and stressed the importance of concerted efforts in tackling the menace of illegal arms.

He noted that the NCCSALW is working with precision to stem the tide of illicit weapons through robust policy frameworks, strategic partnerships, and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.

“We cannot win this fight alone. We need the Nigerian Army’s support, especially in addressing the activities of illegal vigilante groups who claim to be working against arms proliferation but operate outside legal frameworks,” the Zonal Director stated.

He also commended the Army’s continued cooperation and thanked TRADOC for providing temporary storage for recovered arms, while appealing for additional personnel to bolster their operational reach.

In his response, Major General Kevin Aligbe lauded the NCCSALW for its dedication and proactive measures in combating the threats posed by small arms and light weapons.

He reiterated the unwavering support of the Nigerian Army towards the Centre’s mission and assured the visiting delegation of the Army’s readiness to provide necessary resources and manpower within available means.

He also congratulated Mr Eneche on his appointment as Zonal Director and reaffirmed TRADOC’s commitment to ensuring the success of the NCCSALW’s operations in the region.

Highlights of the visit included the presentation of souvenirs, the signing of the Visitor’s Book, and a commemorative group photograph.
