The Regiment Training Centre (RTC) of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully concluded a week-long leadership and resilience training exercise at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Mountain School, Shere Hills, Jos.
The exercise, held from 24 to 29 August 2025, was designed to expose participants to the rigours of operating in challenging terrain similar to those encountered in real combat environments.
A total of 34 officers of the Basic Regiment Officers Course (BROC) 20/2025 and 477 airmen and airwomen of the Basic Regiment Airmen Course (BRAC) 33/2025 took part in the programme. They underwent demanding outdoor drills aimed at strengthening endurance, teamwork, and adaptability qualities essential for Regiment personnel responsible for securing NAF bases and enabling the projection of airpower in diverse operational theatres.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, underscored the significance of the training as part of the Service’s deliberate focus on mission-oriented force development. He stated: “This training is fundamental in shaping resilient leaders and dependable team players. By building endurance, discipline, and unity of purpose, our Regiment personnel are better equipped to confront the nation’s evolving security challenges.”
The exercise featured activities such as mountain climbing, navigation drills, abseiling, obstacle crossing, and survival tasks, all carefully designed to test both physical stamina and mental resilience while sharpening leadership capacity and operational focus.
Commandant RTC, Air Commodore C.O. Olayera, highlighted the enduring value of the exercise, noting: “The strength of this training lies in its lessons of teamwork and leadership, which every participant must carry into future operations.”
The closing ceremony was attended by senior officers, including Air Commodore B.R. Amuda, Commander 551 NAF Station, Jos, as well as staff of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre. Trophies and certificates were presented to outstanding participants in recognition of their performance.
The exercise reaffirms the NAF’s unwavering commitment to building a resilient, professional, and operationally effective Regiment force capable of safeguarding critical assets, supporting internal security operations, and ensuring the effective projection of airpower in defence of the nation.
