In a strategic boost to regimentation and soldiers’ welfare, the Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Maxwell Dangana, on Thursday, 24 July 2024, commissioned a newly constructed office complex for the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at the AHQ Garrison Administration Battalion, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Major General Dangana underscored the critical role of the Administration Battalion in supporting the Army Headquarters and advancing national security efforts.
He praised the unit’s active participation in counter-terrorism and internal security operations across the Northeast, Northwest, and the Federal Capital Territory in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Army Headquarters Garrison, Lieutenant Colonel Bashir Jajira, the Commander emphasized that the RSM plays a pivotal role in maintaining regimentation, enforcing discipline, and safeguarding the welfare of troops.
He noted that the provision of a dedicated office was both strategic and long overdue, enabling the RSM to function more effectively amid Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Major General Dangana further encouraged RSMs to leverage the new facility to enhance unit cohesion, combat drug and substance abuse within the ranks, and provide necessary support for troops grappling with post-traumatic stress disorders.
He reaffirmed the Army Headquarters Garrison’s commitment to ongoing infrastructure development and logistics enhancement to boost operational readiness.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commanding Officer of the Administration Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Fakili Francis, expressed gratitude to the Commander for his unwavering support in realizing the long-anticipated project.
He recalled the logistical difficulties previously encountered by the RSM, who had operated without a designated space, often sharing offices with clerks or working in temporary setups.
The project, initially conceived under the leadership of former Commander Army HEADQUARTERS Garrison, Major General K.A. Isoni, was completed under the watch of Major General Dangana. It was designed and supervised to meet modern military standards.
The event featured a tour of the new facility, presentation of souvenirs, and a ceremonial group photograph to mark the occasion.
