KWARA POLYTECHNIC SEEKS STRONGER SECURITY TIES WITH 22 ARMOURED BRIGADE

In a determined effort to deepen security collaboration, the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engineer Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has called for enhanced synergy between the institution and the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ilorin.

The call was made during a courtesy visit to the Brigade Headquarters at Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.

In a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, the visit was aimed at reinforcing the ongoing partnership in addressing campus-related security concerns.

The Rector commended the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, for the proactive role the military has played in curbing cultism and other criminal activities within and around the polytechnic.

He noted that despite the widespread security challenges in the country, the Brigade had consistently provided timely assistance, contributing significantly to a peaceful learning environment.

Barkins, appealed for the sustained presence and support of the Army, adding that the visible presence of military personnel continues to serve as a powerful deterrent to miscreants.

Brigadier General Barkins, in his response, welcomed the Rector’s visit and assured him of the Brigade’s readiness to build on the existing cooperation. He stressed the importance of real-time intelligence sharing and urged community members to remain vigilant and proactive.

He also reaffirmed that the Brigade’s operational commitment is anchored on the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which focuses on transforming the Nigerian Army into a professional, motivated, and combat-ready force operating effectively within a joint and multi-agency framework.

The Commander further encouraged institutions and communities to support security efforts by avoiding unnecessary late-night movements and maintaining responsible public engagement.

The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book, exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph, symbolizing a renewed pledge of mutual support and cooperation between Kwara State Polytechnic and the 22 Armoured Brigade.
