In a landmark engagement aimed at deepening inter-agency synergy and accelerating technology-led reforms in internal security, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has received the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral James O. Okosun, alongside directing staff and participants of Course 33, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the visit was described as a pivotal step in advancing inter-agency collaboration and knowledge-sharing. He noted that the IGP’s engagement with the NDC team reflects the Force’s strategic shift toward evidence-based policing and capacity-building through academic and professional partnerships.
“The visit reinforces our dedication to working closely with military and academic institutions to shape a resilient, technology-enabled internal security framework for the country,” ACP Adejobi added.
In his remarks, Rear Admiral Okosun commended the Nigeria Police participants for choosing a forward-looking and nationally relevant topic, noting that the National Defence College remains committed to producing security leaders equipped with innovative ideas to address contemporary security challenges. He also expressed appreciation to the IGP for the warm reception and sustained partnership with the College.
Responding, IGP Egbetokun congratulated Rear Admiral Okosun on his appointment as Commandant of the NDC and described the interaction as a significant milestone in institutional cooperation. He applauded the Course 33 participants for their thought-provoking presentation and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s readiness to embrace innovation and research-based approaches to modern policing.
“The Nigeria Police Force is fully committed to adopting forward-looking strategies that harness technology to strengthen internal security and deliver better policing outcomes for the Nigerian people,” the IGP stated.
A major highlight of the engagement was the presentation of a research paper titled “Emerging Technologies and Internal Security: Strategic Options for the Nigeria Police Force by 2035”, delivered by Deputy Commissioner of Police Daniel Bature Lamba on behalf of Nigeria Police Force participants of Course 33. The paper outlined a comprehensive strategic roadmap for the integration of emerging technologies into policing operations, with emphasis on institutional reforms, legal frameworks, human capital development, and sustainability mechanisms to enhance crime prevention, national security, and rapid response capabilities.
Also the visit brought together senior military and police officials, including the Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General Kevin Okechukwu Ukandu. faculty members of the College, and top members of the Nigeria Police Force management team.
The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment from both institutions to deepen collaboration in research, training, and strategic planning, as Nigeria continues to confront evolving security threats in an increasingly dynamic global landscape.
