Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a terrorist ambush, neutralising 13 Boko Haram insurgents during a failed Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on their convoy at Kareto, Borno State.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, along the Gubio–Damasak road, while troops were escorting humanitarian aid trucks.

The terrorists had detonated two command IEDs and opened heavy fire on the convoy. However, the troops responded swiftly, taking tactical positions and overpowering the insurgents with superior firepower.

Thirteen insurgents were eliminated on the spot, while others fled in disarray.During a follow-up operation, the troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition, camel bags, several rolls of detonating cords, and primed IEDs.

Unfortunately, one soldier sustained minor injuries and is in stable condition, while four Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle tyres were damaged and two trucks caught fire in the encounter.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba further disclosed that the troops have intensified deliberate operations in the area to deny terrorists freedom of action, while ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian relief materials, which have since been successfully escorted to Damasak.
