The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, and integrity in public sector recruitment.

Dr. Aliyu stated this when he received the Executive Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Retired Major General Abdulmalik Jibril, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja. In a statement by the Director of Public Enlightenment and Education and Spokesperson of the Commission, Mr. Demola Bakare, Dr. Aliyu emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling systemic corruption, especially in the recruitment of public servants.

He raised concern over the rising cases of job racketeering in the country, warning that such practices erode public trust, deny qualified Nigerians of opportunities, and hinder national development.

“One area I have always raised concern about is employment. Many young Nigerians are challenged with job opportunities. Agencies of government should foster a level playing ground for all, irrespective of where they come from,” he said.

The Chairman further urged heads of government institutions to uphold merit-based recruitment and fairness, stressing that partiality in hiring could undermine national unity and institutional credibility.

Highlighting ICPC’s three-pronged anti-corruption strategy prevention, enforcement, and public enlightenment.

Dr. Aliyu called for continuous inter-agency dialogue to address corruption holistically rather than focusing solely on arrests and prosecutions.

To strengthen partnership, he proposed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the ICPC and CDCFIB to enhance intelligence sharing, capacity building, and operational collaboration.

In response, retired Major General Jibril appreciated the ICPC Chairman for the warm reception and expressed readiness to work closely with the Commission in promoting transparency and integrity in the operations of the CDCFIB.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board was established by the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Services Board Decree No. 14 of July 11, 1986, to manage recruitment, promotions, and administrative matters of paramilitary services under the Federal Ministry of Interior.
