In a striking show of innovation and inter-agency synergy, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered 35 stolen vehicles across Nigeria within the first six months of 2025, underscoring its growing role in national security beyond the highways.
According to a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the feat was accomplished through the Corps’ cutting-edge National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) a tech-driven platform that has become a silent force in Nigeria’s fight against vehicle-related crimes.
The recovered vehicles snatched through armed robbery, abduction, and sophisticated fraud include 24 Toyota models, 5 Lexus, 2 Mercedes-Benz, one Ford Focus, a Daihatsu, a Pontiac Vibe, and a Toyota Sienna. Each was traced and retrieved from different corners of the country through strategic collaboration with sister security agencies and state authorities.
Speaking on the development, the Corps Marshal praised the swift and tactical work of the personnel involved. He described the operation as a “triumph of technology, teamwork, and tenacity.
“This is far more than just recovering stolen property. It’s about restoring trust, deterring crime, and proving that criminals can run but they can’t hide,” the Corps Marshal declared.
He emphasized that while road safety remains the Corps’ core mandate, its evolving tech infrastructure is increasingly becoming a powerful tool in supporting national security, particularly through vehicle verification, surveillance, and tracking.
The Corps also issued a firm advisory to the public, urging Nigerians to verify all vehicle details via the NVIS portal before purchase and report any suspicious activity.
The FRSC reminded citizens that vigilance is a shared responsibility and that technology only works best when supported by informed and proactive communities.
“Public trust isn’t optional it’s essential,” the Corps stressed. “We will keep innovating, but we need the people’s eyes and ears to keep our roads and cities safe.”
