Amidst persistent revenue challenges and increasing pressure on government to meet fiscal targets, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), in collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Jos, is set to convene a high-level workshop aimed at developing strategies to strengthen fiscal efficiency and boost government revenue.
According to a statement by the Deputy Director, Strategic Communications Directorate of the FRC, Bede Ogueri Anyanwu, the workshop seeks to reinforce the principles of fiscal responsibility in the operations of Government-Owned Enterprises (GOEs) and key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). It will also enhance participants’ capacity to implement reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and sustainable revenue mobilization, while providing practical approaches to reducing financial leakages.
With the theme “Strategy for Fiscal Efficiency, Enhanced Government Revenue, and Plugging Leakages in Nigeria’s Financial Management System,” the programme will bring together chief executives, finance, legal and compliance officers of GOEs and other critical agencies.
Participants will engage in critical dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the design of practical strategies to entrench fiscal discipline and advance national development in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The FRC, established under the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) 2007, is mandated to monitor and enforce the payment of operating surplus by 68 GOEs and ensure accountability in the management of internally generated revenue by MDAs.
The workshop, facilitated by Thinkbig Consulting Limited, will feature presentations from leading experts and policy leaders. Victor Muruako, Esq., Executive Chairman of the FRC, will deliver the welcome address, setting the tone for deliberations. Prof. Uche Uwaleke, Nigeria’s first Professor of Capital Market Studies, will present a paper on “Examining the New Tax Reforms and Payment of Operating Surplus by Government-Owned Enterprises,” with a focus on compliance and fiscal responsibility.
Also billed to speak is Chukwuemeka Charles Abana, Esq., Director of Legal, Investigations and Enforcement at the FRC, who will deliver a presentation on “Deepening the Understanding of the Fiscal Responsibility Act (2007).” Renowned policy scholars from NIPSS will further enrich discussions with insights on fiscal governance and economic reforms.Speaking on the collaboration, Tijjani Abdullahi, Esq., Principal Partner/CEO of Thinkbig Consulting Limited, emphasized that the workshop is designed to create an environment where top government officials can “brainstorm, re-strategize, and commit to advancing fiscal responsibility for national development.”
