In a renewed effort to promote self-reliance and improve the socio-economic well-being of women, the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), in partnership with the Christopher Oghogho Foundation, has launched a Women Empowerment Initiative in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
The programme is aimed at equipping women with vital entrepreneurial skills and resources that will enable them to achieve financial independence while making meaningful contributions to their families and communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, reiterated her commitment to uplifting the lives of women, particularly those in rural communities who continue to grapple with economic challenges.
“Our goal is to empower women with the right tools and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty and become agents of positive change in their communities,” Mrs. Musa declared.
She further commended the Christopher Oghogho Foundation for its partnership, noting that collaboration remains central to achieving sustainable development and encouraged participants to maximize the opportunities provided and transfer their acquired knowledge to others.
The initiative featured hands-on training in various vocational skills, including tailoring, catering, and small-scale business management. To support start-ups, participants also received empowerment kits to help them establish and grow their businesses.
Representatives of the Christopher Oghogho Foundation reaffirmed their dedication to women-centered projects and assured of their continued partnership with DEPOWA in expanding the reach of the initiative across the country.Some of the beneficiaries described the programme as life-changing, stressing that the support would not only improve their livelihoods but also secure a brighter future for their families.
The event drew local government officials, community leaders, and women’s groups, reflecting the broad recognition of collective action in addressing poverty and advancing gender equality in Nigeria.
