By Clara Dabo

In a passionate call for proactive parenting, the President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Musa, has urged parents and guardians to seek real-life opportunities that will equip young people with practical skills and knowledge essential for thriving in today’s competitive and dynamic society.

Speaking at the maiden drama production by students of DEPOWA School in Abuja, Mrs. Musa, who was ably represented by the Deputy President of DEPOWA, Dr. Mrs. Bukola Olatunde, emphasized the importance of exposing children early to hands-on experiences and personal development initiatives that go beyond traditional classroom learning.

“Opportunity, they say, is gold,” she noted. “Let me encourage our parents and guardians to always seek real-life opportunities to equip these young ones with the various skills and knowledge necessary to stand out in society.”

The DEPOWA President highlighted that the foundation for success in an ever-evolving world is laid through deliberate support, exposure, and mentorship, starting from the home.

She praised the creativity and dedication of the students, commending their performance in the play for demonstrating not only artistic talent but also teamwork, resilience, and a strong willingness to learn.

“I am exceptionally thrilled, like everyone else who watched the play from beginning to end. Indeed, the children have demonstrated capacity, flexibility, and good team spirit throughout all the scenes presented,” she said.

Mrs. Musa also acknowledged the school management’s commitment to excellence, citing the decision to reschedule a scheduled examination to allow students to perfect their performances as a testament to the value placed on holistic development.

“Despite the limited time for rehearsals, you have all performed beautifully well,” she remarked. “My special thanks go to the Education Committee, who thought it wise to engage the children in this creative endeavor. I also want to appreciate the teachers and the entire management of the school for their tireless efforts in ensuring the success of this event.”

She reaffirmed DEPOWA’s dedication to fostering youth empowerment through various initiatives, including workshops, educational support, and skill acquisition programs that are tailored to nurture excellence and resilience among children and youth within military and police families.

Mrs. Musa concluded with a renewed commitment that under her leadership, DEPOWA will continue to be a beacon of hope and growth for the next generation, creating platforms where children can express themselves, grow confidently, and be equipped to take on the future.
