In a lively addition to its monthly walk routine, the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) introduced a “Dance to De-Stress” session, a fun, engaging twist aimed at promoting wellness, relieving stress, and fostering unity among members. The initiative drew enthusiastic participation, despite the early morning rain.
The president of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, said the inclusion of a dance segment was to encourage more physical activity among members in a way that is both enjoyable and beneficial to their health.
She noted that as military wives who play multiple roles, maintaining physical and mental well-being is essential to their overall productivity and stability at home and in the community.
According to her, dancing provides an alternative to conventional exercises, such as walking or running, and can easily be done at home. She urged members to take advantage of music and movement as a means to remain physically active, reduce stress, and improve their overall health.
Mrs. Musa also encouraged participants to share their personal fitness routines and videos within the DEPOWA community to inspire others and promote a lifestyle of wellness.
Also speaking, the chairperson of DEPOWA’s Medical and Sports Committee, Dr. Juliet Ango, said stress has significant health implications, including high blood pressure, back pain, and, in some cases, sudden death. She emphasized the need for intentional efforts toward stress management through regular exercise and leisure activities.
Dr. Ango explained that physical activities such as dancing help release tension, improve mood, and boost mental alertness. She added that DEPOWA has created platforms for members to engage in daily fitness routines and track their progress collectively.
The event featured group dancing, wellness tips, and interactive moments, reinforcing the association’s commitment to promoting health and well-being among its members.
