DEFENCE PERM SEC PHEELANGWA VOWS TO PRIORITIZE STAFF WELFARE AND PRODUCTIVE WORKPLACE

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Richard Pheelangwa, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting staff welfare and ensuring a conducive work environment, noting that a healthy workspace is essential for enhanced productivity.

This was contained in a statement issued by the AD Information and Public Relations, Enderline Chukwu, for the Director of Information and Public Relations. Mr. Pheelangwa made the remarks during his familiarization tour of departments, offices, and facilities at the Ministry’s headquarters, Ship House, Abuja, on Monday, 1 December 2025.

The Permanent Secretary embarked on an extensive tour across various offices and facilities to assess staff working conditions and engage directly with personnel. During the visit, he underscored the strong connection between staff well-being and organizational performance, emphasizing the importance of investing in a conducive work atmosphere.

According to him, “A good working environment is good for productivity. Staff spend the greater part of their day at their workplaces. If the environment is conducive, they are happier, healthier, and more productive. I always advise staff to make their workplace pleasant and not allow negativity to affect their work.”

Mr. Pheelangwa commended the Ministry’s well-structured operations and expressed satisfaction with the level of orderliness observed. He assured staff that his administration will continue to prioritize their comfort by providing the necessary tools and resources for improved service delivery.

Having assumed office on 26 November 2025, the Permanent Secretary has been holding strategic meetings with Directors and Heads of Units as part of efforts to fully acquaint himself with the Ministry’s operational requirements and ongoing activities.
