The Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening defence cooperation across Africa while commending the Namibian Command and Staff College for its contributions to regional security and education.

The Minister made this known when he received a 26-member delegation from the Namibian Command and Staff College (Course 05/2025), led by its Commandant, Brigadier Benhard Erastus, during a study tour to Nigeria at Ship House, Abuja.

Represented by the Director, Joint Service Department, Mrs. Bosede Olaniyi, the Minister said Nigeria remains committed to sharing experiences, deepening mutual understanding and fostering stronger partnerships with Namibia and other African countries in the collective pursuit of peace and security on the continent.

The Minister recalled Nigeria’s historic role in Africa’s liberation struggles, noting that the country would continue to support collaborative initiatives aimed at advancing regional stability.

He further emphasized the need for African unity, stressing that togetherness is vital in resisting external forces seeking to divide the continent.

In his remarks, Brigadier Erastus expressed appreciation to the Nigerian government and the Ministry of Defence for the warm reception, and for providing insights into Nigeria’s defence policy, civil-military relations, and regional security operations.

He explained that the College selected Nigeria as a destination for the tour in recognition of its leadership role in the region and to enhance Namibia’s knowledge of defence and security studies, which he said are key to sustainable national development.

The visit also featured a presentation on the Ministry of Defence architecture by the Joint Service Department, followed by an interactive session.

As part of the exchange, the Namibian delegation presented a plaque of honour to the Ministry, received on its behalf by Mrs. Olaniyi.
