The Defence Headquarters has announced the conclusion of investigations into the arrest of sixteen officers over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, initially disclosed in a press statement issued in October 2025.
In a statement released by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) said the comprehensive investigation has been finalised and the report duly forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with extant military regulations.
According to the statement, the investigation was conducted in strict adherence to established military procedures and involved a thorough examination of all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. The findings revealed that some of the officers are alleged to have been involved in plotting to overthrow the government, actions described as fundamentally inconsistent with the ethics, core values and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Major General Uba stated that officers found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before the appropriate military judicial panels to face trial, in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations. He emphasised that the process is designed to ensure accountability while fully upholding the principles of fairness and due process.
The Armed Forces further stressed that the measures being taken are purely disciplinary and form part of established institutional mechanisms aimed at preserving discipline, order and operational effectiveness within the military.
Reaffirming its commitment to constitutional authority, the Armed Forces of Nigeria noted that it remains resolute in upholding the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty and respect for democratic governance at all times.
