The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the 8 Division, Sokoto, and the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to sustain the current operational momentum and decisively eliminate bandits and terrorists operating within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the charge on 27 December 2025 while addressing troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Illela, Sokoto State, during an operational visit to formations and units under the 8 Division. The visit formed part of efforts to assess ongoing operations and boost troop morale in the frontline areas.

Commending the troops for their gallantry, professionalism and resilience, the COAS praised their commitment in confronting criminal elements whose activities have inflicted hardship on innocent Nigerians. He noted that the sustained operations by the troops have recorded significant successes and led to improved security across the Area of Responsibility.

“I commend you for your courage, professionalism and the operational successes recorded so far. Your sacrifices have translated into improved security in your Area of Responsibility. You must maintain the momentum to further annihilate these terrorists. We can no longer tolerate their excesses against the Nigerian people,” Lieutenant General Shaibu stated.

The Army Chief further reassured the troops of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and operational effectiveness. He directed the construction of additional accommodation, medical facilities and other essential infrastructure at Illela Barracks, aimed at enhancing the morale, well-being and combat readiness of troops and their families.
