The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has laid the foundation for the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NASFS) in Doma, Nasarawa State, describing the institution as “a legacy of excellence, bravery and sacrifice” that will transform the training of Nigeria’s elite troops.
In a statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the initiative represents a strategic leap in enhancing the Army’s combat readiness and capacity to dominate unconventional and complex battlefields.
The Special Forces School was originally established in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, as part of the Army’s response to evolving security challenges. With its relocation to Doma, the facility is expected to provide a more enabling environment for advanced, mission-specific training. The Buni Yadi site will now serve as the Nigerian Army Acclimatization Center, preparing troops for the unique demands of operations in the North East.
Speaking at the groundbreaking event, Lt Gen Oluyede reaffirmed his commitment to delivering world-class training and modern equipment, stressing that the Nigerian Army’s Special Forces must remain “unconquerable” and at par with their global counterparts.
As part of the visit, the Army Chief also commissioned two other landmark projects: the new Headquarters of 4 Special Forces Command and a state-of-the-art Officers’ Mess. The facilities, complete with operational workspaces, conference halls, and recreational amenities, are designed to boost operational capacity, welfare, and morale of personnel.
Earlier in Lafia, the COAS paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr Abdullahi Sule, where he underscored the national character of the Army and the need for stronger civilian-military collaboration in addressing security challenges. Governor Sule, in his remarks, commended the Army’s efforts in stabilizing the state, enabling agriculture and mining to thrive despite regional security pressures.
The ceremony in Doma was rounded off with symbolic tree planting, a gift presentation to the COAS by the Andoma of Doma in recognition of his leadership, and a group photograph with dignitaries and stakeholders.
