The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, assured officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army of improved welfare measures aimed at boosting morale and enhancing operational effectiveness.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS gave the assurance while addressing troops of 18 Brigade at Latini Barracks, Bida, Niger State.

Lieutenant General Shaibu stated that the Nigerian Army, under his leadership, remains fully committed to prioritising the welfare of personnel and their families, describing it as a critical factor for sustaining operational success across theatres of operation.

He noted that the welfare of troops is receiving continuous and serious attention, while commending the officers and soldiers for their dedication and efforts in maintaining relative peace within their Area of Responsibility.

The Army Chief charged the troops to remain resolute in degrading and neutralising bandits and terrorists, stressing that sustained pressure on criminal elements would help restore public confidence and enhance overall security.

General Shaibu further disclosed plans to construct additional accommodation facilities and establish skills acquisition centres, aimed at improving the well-being and economic empowerment of troops’ families.
