The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reiterated the need for a unified and coordinated approach among Nigeria’s security agencies to effectively address the country’s evolving security challenges. He made this known on March 25, 2026, while receiving the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during his maiden familiarisation visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, the IGP emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration and sustaining inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force to better tackle internal security threats. He commended the longstanding partnership between both institutions, describing it as crucial to achieving national security objectives.
The Police Chief also appreciated the COAS for his commitment to capacity building, particularly the Army’s support in training Police Mobile Force personnel. According to him, such efforts have significantly improved operational effectiveness across various theatres of operation. He further assured the Army of continued intelligence sharing and enhanced operational coordination in ongoing and future security engagements.
Responding, Lieutenant General Shaibu congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to deepening inter-agency cooperation in line with his command philosophy. He noted that their professional relationship dates back to their joint service in the United Nations Mission in Darfur, highlighting a history of collaboration in complex operational environments.
The COAS also acknowledged the support of the Nigeria Police Force in operations across Kogi, Kwara, and Niger States, where joint efforts against banditry and kidnapping have recorded notable successes. He assured the IGP of continued Army support, stressing that only a unified and well-coordinated security framework can guarantee lasting peace and stability across the country.
