Artillery Chief Evaluates Troops, Artillery Platforms in North-East Theatre

The Commander Corps of Artillery (CCA), Major General John Adeyemo, has paid an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), as part of efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and further stabilise the North-East region.

The visit aligns with ongoing initiatives to strengthen counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in line with the vision and command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

Speaking during the visit, Major General Adeyemo said the primary objective was to conduct an operational assessment and evaluation of Artillery Corps resources deployed in the theatre. He explained that the visit would also enable an on-the-spot evaluation of artillery platforms supporting Operation HADIN KAI and facilitate engagement with key operational stakeholders.

The CCA emphasised the critical role of artillery platforms in sustaining coordinated and effective firepower in ongoing operations, describing them as vital assets in the fight against terrorism and insurgency. He conveyed the COAS’ seasonal greetings to officers and troops of OPHK and reaffirmed the Corps of Artillery’s unwavering commitment to supporting operations in the theatre.

Major General Adeyemo commended the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, for his professional and innovative leadership in addressing security challenges in the North-East. He also praised the level of synergy and cohesion within the theatre and lauded the gallantry and resilience of the troops, describing them as warriors and gallant soldiers.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the Commander Corps of Artillery for undertaking the visit despite the festive season. He described artillery as a critical component of the Nigerian Army’s firepower, noting that its contributions to operations in the North-East remain indispensable.

The Theatre Commander reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to ensuring the optimal utilisation of all critical combat enablers, particularly artillery platforms, to sustain operational effectiveness. He expressed confidence that challenges identified during the visit would be promptly addressed by the Corps of Artillery under the leadership of Major General Adeyemo.

During the visit, Major General Adeyemo received detailed operational briefings on the activities, achievements, and challenges of OPHK. He described the briefings as comprehensive and assured that deliberate measures would be taken to address identified challenges to enhance coordination and overall operational success.

As part of the operational assessment tour, the CCA is expected to inspect selected artillery platforms and commission projects within the theatre. Highlights of the visit included operational briefings, deliberations by senior officers, signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
