Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade on a routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, came under a sudden and heavy terrorist attack while returning from a successful mission around the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the patrol team—led by the Commander, 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, and comprising troops of the Brigade and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)—valiantly fought through the enemy ambush. Their superior firepower forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray, abandoning their mission.

Unfortunately, during the encounter, two courageous soldiers and two heroic CJTF members paid the supreme price in active service to the nation. While commending the troops for their gallantry, the Army High Command extended heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen heroes for their ultimate sacrifice.

The Army Headquarters also debunked circulating false reports on some online platforms alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander, urging the public to disregard such misinformation and continue to support the ongoing operations.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, lauded the uncommon bravery, resilience, and sacrifice demonstrated by the troops, noting that their unwavering commitment in one of the nation’s most challenging theatres of operation remains a profound testament to the sacrifices made daily by Nigerian soldiers in defence of the country.
