The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged troops of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade to intensify efforts in tackling terrorism and other security threats within their Joint Operations Area and Southern Kaduna in general.
During an operational visit to the Brigade located in Samaru Kataf, Kaduna State, the CDS said troops must remain resolute and proactive in combating terrorism, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities threatening peace and stability in the region.
In a statement issued by the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the visit was aimed at assessing the combat readiness of the Brigade as well as identifying operational challenges confronting troops with a view to addressing them effectively.
The statement noted that the Brigade, established in 2024, has continued to play a significant role in curbing insecurity across the area through sustained military operations and strategic deployments.
Addressing the troops, General Oluyede expressed satisfaction with their operational alertness, discipline, and professionalism. He urged them to remain committed to duty and continue developing innovative strategies to stay ahead of criminal elements.
The CDS emphasized the need for troops to anticipate the actions of criminals and evolve effective countermeasures capable of neutralizing emerging threats. He assured personnel of continuous support from Defence Headquarters in the areas of operational equipment, logistics, welfare, and other critical enablers needed to enhance mission success.
Earlier, the Commander of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, Captain (NN) O.J. Ekuma, highlighted some of the Brigade’s operational achievements, including the neutralization of criminals, recovery of weapons and rustled cattle, rescue of kidnapped victims, and arrest of suspected bandits and their collaborators.
He added that the Brigade has successfully disrupted the movement of criminal elements within its area of responsibility, leading to improved security and safer communities across the region.
As part of the operational appraisal, the CDS also inspected ongoing Defence Headquarters projects and military deployments within the area. He subsequently directed the provision of additional operational equipment and platforms to address identified gaps within the Brigade.
The visit, which was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General J.H. Abdussalam; the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General E.F. Oyinlola; alongside other senior military officers, reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to strengthening troop welfare, operational effectiveness, and national security.
