The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to strengthening strategic global partnerships aimed at enhancing national security. He made this known on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, while receiving a delegation from King’s College London led by Professor Randolph Charles Kent at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, Lieutenant General Shaibu described the six-year collaboration as a critical driver of intellectual capacity building, leadership development, and operational effectiveness within the Nigerian Army.

He explained that the partnership, facilitated through the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, has significantly expanded access to world-class military education and reinforced the Army’s goal of building a professional, adaptive, and combat-ready force.

The COAS noted that modern security challenges demand forward-looking strategies rooted in collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing. He emphasized that the Nigerian Army Resource Centre plays a vital role as a policy think tank, generating strategic ideas and promoting inter-agency cooperation to effectively address Nigeria’s evolving security threats.

Speaking further, Lieutenant General Shaibu highlighted the growing impact of the digital information environment on national security and internal stability. He stressed the importance of deeper academic and institutional collaboration to better understand information warfare, malign influence operations, and vulnerabilities within the global information space, calling for proactive, research-based responses to these emerging threats.

In his remarks, Professor Randolph Charles Kent commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained commitment to the partnership, noting that the Yale-NARC African Leadership Centre programme continues to thrive on shared expertise and mutual knowledge exchange.

He added that such collaborations are essential for fostering innovation and strengthening collective capacity to respond effectively to increasingly complex global security challenges.
