Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, reinforcing ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces of Nigeria to combat insurgency in the North-East.
The attack, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, saw insurgents attempting to breach the defensive perimeter of the military formation. According to a statement issued by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the troops, under the leadership of Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded swiftly with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.
Major General Onoja noted that the failed assault reflects the desperation of terrorist elements who have continued to suffer significant setbacks in recent operations. He emphasized that the troops’ prompt and decisive response demonstrates a high level of combat readiness, resilience, and operational effectiveness in protecting key military installations and sustaining pressure on insurgents.
The Defence Headquarters, however, confirmed that the encounter resulted in the loss of some gallant soldiers. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen troops, describing their sacrifice as a source of pride and inspiration to the Armed Forces and the nation, while extending condolences to their families.
Meanwhile, the military disclosed that clearance operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and prevent them from regrouping. The Armed Forces also urged the public to disregard unverified reports and support security agencies with credible information, assuring Nigerians of their continued commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
