The Federal Government has called for stronger collaboration and coordination among security and intelligence agencies to effectively address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, the Minister of Defence, Retired General Christopher Musa, made the call while addressing intelligence and security stakeholder during a high-level meeting. He emphasized the urgent need for a unified and integrated approach to intelligence gathering and operations, particularly in the face of asymmetric warfare.
The Minister commended the dedication and resilience of security personnel, noting that despite numerous challenges, they continue to serve with courage and commitment, often without adequate recognition due to the complex nature of the threats. He described the current security situation as a collective national concern, stressing that Nigeria’s response must be equally collective, even as he acknowledged that past efforts have been largely fragmented, limiting overall effectiveness.
The Defence Minister urged agencies to break away from isolated operations and work together for better results. According to him, “We have been operating in silos for too long. It is time to come together, harness our collective intelligence, and work as a unified team to support our troops and safeguard the nation.”
He further reiterated the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on enhanced joint action across all security institutions, stressing that every agency has a critical role in national security. He also highlighted the need to integrate both human and technical intelligence for timely and actionable outcomes, while calling on Nigerians to support security efforts by providing credible information.
The meeting, described as the first of its kind at the Ministry, is expected to lay the foundation for a more coordinated intelligence framework aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening national security.
