Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a terrorist attack and rescued 31 abducted civilians following a swift response to a distress call from Ariko Village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident occurred during an Easter church service at an ECWA Church in the community, where worshippers were reportedly attacked and taken hostage by armed terrorists. Acting promptly on the information received, troops mobilised to the scene with the support of local residents and launched a pursuit operation against the fleeing assailants.

According to military sources, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, overwhelming them with superior firepower. The sustained pressure forced the attackers to abandon 31 hostages, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical attention.

However, five victims were confirmed dead, with their remains recovered at the scene. The fleeing terrorists are believed to have suffered significant casualties, as indicated by blood trails observed along their escape routes.

Meanwhile, troops have intensified follow-up operations to track down the perpetrators and rescue any remaining captives. Additional deployments have also been made to the area to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security
