ENDURING PEACE have stepped up security operations across the Jos metropolis in a bid to curb the escalation of tensions in Plateau State. The intensified measures, which include comprehensive stop-and-search exercises, were carried out on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to restore normalcy and safeguard lives and property, particularly in Jos North Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the heightened security presence has already recorded significant success. Troops intercepted and arrested two suspects during targeted operations, recovering one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a pump-action gun, and a cutlass.
The operations were conducted across key flashpoints and major transit routes within Jos North and Jos South, including Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate.
The arrests and recoveries are seen as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal elements and prevent further violence in the area.In a related development, troops swiftly responded to a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam. On arrival, the unidentified gunmen reportedly fled into nearby bushes under sustained military pressure. A follow-up search of the area led to the discovery of two local residents who had sustained gunshot injuries.
The victims were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong and visible security presence across Plateau State.
It assured residents that operations would continue with increased intensity until all threats are neutralized and lasting peace is restored in affected communities.
