The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General W.B. Idris, has directed troops of the 8 Division and Sector 2 to intensify their operations and ensure the complete eradication of bandits from the North West region.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, General Idris gave the order during his maiden operational assessment visit to the 8 Division and Sector 2 OPFY at Giginya Barracks, Sokoto.
Addressing the troops, the Theatre Commander said his visit was aimed at evaluating their performance, reviewing training standards, and assessing the welfare of soldiers wounded in action. He urged the personnel to brace themselves psychologically for a new phase of high-intensity operations.


Major General Idris stressed that the ongoing offensive would only succeed through the troops’ courage, discipline, and dedication. He assured them of enhanced combat equipment and improved logistics to boost operational effectiveness.
He also commended the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 OPFY, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, for his proactive leadership in tackling security threats within the sector. General Idris later visited wounded soldiers, assuring them of quality medical attention. He also visited troops at 248 Battalion in Ilela, where he shared a meal to encourage frontline personnel.
Earlier, Major General Ajose briefed the Theatre Commander on operational successes, training efforts, and existing logistical challenges. The visit featured an inspection of the Quarter Guard, presentation of a Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association bouquet to the Theatre Commander, operational briefing, inspection of the Division Training School, and interactions with wounded soldiers.
