The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has emphasized the need for a coordinated and unified approach to data management and record keeping within the Nigerian Army, describing it as a crucial tool for enhancing operational efficiency, driving informed decision-making, and ensuring accountability across all levels of the force.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, General Oluyede, represented by the Deputy Director General of the Nigerian Army Future Heritage and Future Centre, Major General Philip Eromosele, made the remarks during the opening of the Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary Data Management and Record Keeping Seminar 2025.
The event took place at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja.General Oluyede noted that effective and coordinated data management allows the Army to track progress, identify operational gaps, and respond more efficiently to emerging security challenges.
He stressed that adopting high standards in data storage, document security, and information sharing is vital to achieving synergy across all departments and enhancing overall operational performance.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its constitutional mandate, General Oluyede assured that the Army remains resolute in safeguarding Nigeria’s security and unity.
He also pledged unwavering loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his welcome address, the Military Secretary (Army), Major General Everest Okoro, highlighted that the seminar aims to promote excellence in data management and record-keeping practices, in line with global best practices and technological advancements.
He expressed profound appreciation to the COAS for his visionary leadership, which has guided the Department toward achieving its objectives.
The three-day seminar, themed “Effective Data Management and Record Keeping: A Key Element in Ensuring a Professional Nigerian Army in a Digital Era,” is designed to strengthen collaboration, foster coordinated approaches to information handling, and enhance the Army’s adoption of modern methods for operational documentation.
