82 DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY ORDERS PROBE INTO SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO OF ENUGU INCIDENT

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has acknowledged a viral social media video showing an encounter between its personnel and civilians along the Nsukka–Igbo Eze South Road in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the incident reportedly occurred during a routine security check. While emphasising that such checks are vital for safeguarding lives and property, the Division stressed that it takes all allegations of misconduct by its troops with utmost seriousness.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ayeni, a comprehensive investigation has been launched to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Army assured that its findings will be made public, and if any personnel are found culpable, they will face disciplinary measures in line with military regulations.

The 82 Division further reiterated its commitment to carrying out its constitutional duties with the highest standards of professionalism, guided by the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct. It also reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, accountability, and fostering positive civil-military relations.

The Division expressed appreciation for the vigilance of the public and the crucial role of the media in drawing attention to matters of public concern.
