The 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF), North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), has boosted its operational readiness with the graduation of 60 soldiers from the Fourth Quarter Basic Battle Course.
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the event marked the completion of an intensive nine-week training programme aimed at fostering the ‘warrior ethos’ and enhancing the combat proficiency of participating troops.
Speaking at the ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 JTF (NW) OPFY, Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, commended the graduates and expressed satisfaction with the steady improvements recorded by the Division Training School. He noted that ongoing upgrades in infrastructure and training quality have significantly strengthened field performance, as reflected in the Division’s monthly operational reports.
Major General Ajose urged the graduating soldiers to deploy their new skills effectively and serve as role models in their various units. “Share your knowledge, especially in weapon handling and live arms drills, and let your discipline set the standard for others,” he charged.
Earlier, the Acting Division Training Officer, Lieutenant Colonel David Ezebuche, explained that the course was designed not only to impart tactical skills but also to cultivate the mindset associated with the “warrior ethos,” characterised by self-discipline, courage, confidence and strong team spirit.
Highlights of the event included a demonstration of combat skills by the trainees before formation commanders and staff officers. Outstanding participants were also honoured for exceptional performance, with Lance Corporal Abubakar Rabiu emerging as the best graduating student, followed by Sapper Popoola Ayomide and Private Edore Ogbenefejiro as second and third positions respectively.
The ceremony, attended by formation commanders, senior officers and invited guests, concluded with the presentation of certificates and group photographs.
